0091 Red Ludwigia Repens Aquarium Plant

  • $4.99

Ludwigia repens is a species of flowering plant in the evening primrose known by the common name creeping primrose-willow. It is native to parts of the Americas and it has the potential to spread easily and become naturalized  in many areas. It is known as an aquatic weed in some regions. It is also cultivated as an aquarium plant. This is a mat-forming perennial herb with a creeping stem up to 30 centimeters long, rooting at nodes which come in contact with wet substrate. The leaves are oppositely arranged and up to 4 or 5 centimeters long. The flower has four yellow colored petals no more than 3 millimeters long nested on a base of four pointed sepals which may be slightly longer.

The amphibious Red Ludwigia can be identified by its spade-shaped leaves with dark green tops and reddish bottoms. Sometimes called "Water Primrose," the plant needs moderate or substantial lighting and a vitamin-enriched substrate for its leaves to thrive. Red Ludwigia is ideally used in an aquarium's middle ground, though it can also serve as a background plant in smaller aquariums.

Things to remember:

Water temperature:

Aquatic plants require a tropical community aquarium with water temperaturesranging between 72-78º F (22-26º C). Use an aquarium heater to maintainwater temperature.

Adding plants:

Whether you're just starting your aquarium or introducing new plants into your tank, make sure to add only one or two plants at a time.

Lighting:

Most tropical plants require sunlight each day, year round. The duration and consistency are essential for plants to thrive. Natural aquariums must be equipped with the means to provide 12 hours of simulated sunlight each day.

Plant fertilizer:

Fertilizer should only be added according to the dosage instructions on the label, and only when needed (as in the case of a water change). Plants will grow best if fertilized moderately and regularly after water changes rather than given larger quantities of fertilizer on a less-regular basis.

Fish and plants:

Small schooling fish are highly recommended for a natural planted aquarium; larger fish often uproot plants. The adult size and eating habitats of a fish should always be taken into consideration.

We only Ship Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It ships from USA so will be 2 to 3 days for first class. Can also upgrade to priority or overnight.

Some plants may not be in their full aquatic form upon arrival and stem plants may not have any roots yet. You may see some loss of leaves within the first couple weeks while it transitions to its aquatic form. This is perfectly normal as long as the structure remains intact.
